CEFC and Fudan University Build Institute of Belt and Road & Global Governance

On November 5, 2017, CEFC China signed a cooperation agreement with Fudan University on the occasion of “High-Level Forum on the Belt and Road Initiative & Global Governance & Formal Launch of Fudan Institute of Belt and Road & Global Governance”, where CEFC China offered to help set up the high-end think tank —Fudan Institute of Belt and Road & Global Governance (BRGG), and provide financial support in its subject research, academic activities, international exchanges, talent training as well as student development. The forum attendees included Zhao Qizheng, Former Minister of China’s State Council Information Office, Dong Yunhu, member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Li Junru, former vice president of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, Jiao Yang, Party Secretary of Fudan University and Director of BRGG, Du Yubo, Head of the China Association of Higher Education, Wang Yajun, Assistant Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Li Xinwei, Deputy Head of the Policy Research Bureau in the Office of Foreign Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, Chan Chauto, President of CEFC China, and Wang Shixiong, Vice President of CEFC China.

In her speech, Jiao Yang noted that the establishment of BRGG is a significant initiative that responds to and serves China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and it also constitutes an integral part of Fudan’s efforts in developing itself into a “Double First-Class” university. She also noted that Fudan would keep innovating its system and mechanism, and integrating resources within and beyond the university so as to build the institute into a pioneer think tank in Belt and Road and global governance research that is leading in theory, talent, services and openness at home and abroad. She believes the development of disciplines and talent pool, along with the joint efforts from governments, universities and the society, will better serve the national strategies and facilitate regional economic and social development, thus contributing more to developing the major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and building a community of shared future for mankind.

Du Yubo recognized the high-level forum on Belt and Road & Global Governance and the establishment of the think tank as a conscious action taken by Fudan and CEFC China to support BRI, a proactive effort to build new international relations, as well as a bold attempt to build a new type of think tank with Chinese characteristics. Besides, Wang Yajun noted in his speech that Belt and Road and global governance research can be highly demanding, calling for not only acute insight and accumulation of experience in international interactions, but also intensive study and advice and suggestions in the theoretical perspective.

Chan Chauto appointed as Vice President of the Advisory Committee of BRGG

 

Chan Chauto extended CEFC China’s congratulations on the official launch of BRGG on behalf of Board Chairman Ye Jianming. He also noted that BRI and the concept of building a community of shared future for mankind, as China’s wisdom for the world, is now reshaping the global political and economic structure and facilitating new global governance. He added that Fudan had achieved great success in Belt and Road and global governance research, and that CEFC China as an active practitioner and beneficiary of BRI had made it into the Fortune Global 500 list with integrated energy industry chain and well-structured global investment. In the pursuit of the common goal of supporting the BRI, the two sides will build a new type of think tank that combines CEFC China’s practical experience with Fudan’s academic studies.

It is reported that BRGG’s major role is to bring together talents to offer advice. Centering around the hot spot, difficult and diplomatic issues in Belt and Road development and global governance, it will support the government by providing scientific and accurate information and solutions as well as research results with theoretical and strategic significance for practical national strategic decision-making. It aims to develop itself into a high-end think tank with distinctive features that advices the country on Belt and Road and global governance issues.
